I discovered Deep Purple band by chance in 1993 when a high school classmate loaned me the Made in Japan album (thanks to him !). Fortunately I started with the best disc ever produced by the band and so it acted like a revelation ! :o)

Here I just put a small presentation of the history of one of the most legendary hard-rock band. Hope it will lead you to listen it ! :o)

The third album of MK2 is probably the best ever produced by the band. This album, that is a real hard rock one, contains some of the most famous songs like Highway Star or Smoke on the Water !

Preferred Songs : Highway Star, Pictures of Home, Smoke on the Water, Lazy...

03. Strange Kind of Woman

One of my favorite albums despite less good than the previous one. Especially for the amazing Fireball song.

05. Into The Fire

06. Living Wreck

07. Hard Lovin' Man

Ian Gillian and Roger Glover joined the band to form the MK2 which is generally considered as the best lineup of the band history.

Their first album is one of their best and the real sound of Deep Purple came with it. Some legendary songs are on it like Child in Time and Speed King.

This is an excellent album. Probably one of the best ever produced. It may mark the beginning of real hard rock sound of Deep Purple...

Preferred Songs : Speed King, Child in Time...

Deep Purple (1969)

MK1 : Rod Evans (Vocal) - Ritchie Blackmore (Guitar) - Nick Simper - (Bass) - Jon Lord (Keyboards) - Ian Paice (Drums)

01. Chasing Shadows

02. Blind

03. Lalena

04. Why didn't Rosemary

05. Bird has flown

06. April

Deep Purple is the third and last of the MK1 albums with also some nice compositions like April and his amazing introduction.

Preferred Songs : Lalena, Bird Has Flown, April...

The Book of Taliesyn (1969)

MK1 : Rod Evans (Vocal) - Ritchie Blackmore (Guitar) - Nick Simper - (Bass) - Jon Lord (Keyboards) - Ian Paice (Drums)

08. River Deep, Mountain High

The Book of Taliesyn is the second of the MK1 albums, which also contains some good stuff, like the nice Lord's Anthem.

Preferred Songs : Kentucky Woman, Shield, Anthem...

Shades of Deep Purple (1968)

01. And The Address

02. Hush

03. One More Rainy Day

04. Prelude : Happiness

05. I'm So Glad

06. Mandrake Root

07. Help

08. Love Help Me

09. Hey Joe

The beginning of Deep Purple which is of course the first album of the MK1. So Shades of Deep Purple is the first of the 3 MK1 albums that are often unappreciated. I think this is a little bit severe. Despite if the known heavy sound of Deep Purple, that will come with Ian Gillian, is not present in these 3 albums there are some songs that are (very) nice to listen !

Preferred Songs : Hush, Mandrake Root...
