After 11 hours of flight we land in the
morning on the Roland Garros Airport of
Saint-Denis de le Reunion.
After taking the car we directly start
by following the west seashore : Cap
la Houssaye, Boucan-Canot, Saint-Gilles-les-Bains,
La Saline-les-Bains...
At the end of the day we take the direction
of the Maido Piton... On the road we spend
the night at the nice Parc
Hotel du Maïdo just near the summit.

.: 30-April-2004 :.
|
|
|
After a early wake-up, we take the direction
of the Maido Piton (2190 m) from
where we have a extraordinary point of view
on the Mafate Circus.
From this point we start a day trekking
to the Grand Benard, the third summit
of the island with 2896 m high. After 3h30
we arrive, at noon and just before the fog,
on the top that provide a new and beautiful
point of view of the Mafate Circus
but also on the Cilaos Circus...
In the afternoon we go down from another
path via La Glacière (2489
m) under a hard sunny
weather...
At the end of the day we take the direction
of Tevelave
via the very nice Tamarins
forested road. We continue via the incredible wicked
way to Cilaos
(the "400 curves road" !).

|
|
The day starts with a new short trekking
to the Bras
Rouge waterfall.
In the afternoon we visit the Cilaos
Circus (Ilet à Cordes, La Roche
Merveilleuse...)

.: 02-May-2004 :.
|
|
|
In the morning we continue to visit Cilaos
(Cilaos market, the
church, the downtown, typical
houses...)
At noon departure for Etang-Sale-les-Bains
via Saint-Louis. After we follow the seashore
until Saint-Leu (lagoon) and come back.
We finally finish the day with a little
but very pleasant bath in the big waves
of the Indian Ocean on the black
sand beach of Etang-Sale-les-Bains.

.: 03-May-2004 :.
|
|
|
We start from Etang-Sale-les-Bains
and we follow the south coast. We see Grande
Anse before crossing the Saint-Joseph town.
We ascend the Langevin River until the Grand
Galet village and his nice waterfall.
We continue via the city of Saint-Philippe,
the
2001 and 1986 old lava streams,
the charming place of Anse
des Cascades, Piton Sainte-Rose
(and the Notre Dame des Laves church) to finish the
day at Sainte-Rose with the english suspended
bridge.

.: 04-May-2004 :.
|
|
|
Departure for La Plaine des Palmistes
via Le Tampon. Once the luggages let at
the hotel we take the direction of
the Salazie Circus.
After the city of Salazie we meet the
nice Voile
de la Mariee waterfall. The road
finally leads us until the pretty Hell-Bourg
village with his typical and nice houses.

.: 05-May-2004 :.
|
|
|
On the morning we start for the volcano.
After crossing the incredible lunar landscape
of the Plaine
des Sables we arrive on the Pas
de Bellecombe (2311 m). Unfortunately
the summit is currently closed due to an
new eruption. Moreover the weather is horrible
(fog, rain, wind...). We must go down, deception...
Hope we will see another volcano elsewhere
in the world ! :o)
In the afternoon we visit the interesting
Volcano
Museum at Bourg-Murat.
We finally finish the day by following
the north-east cost (Sainte-Anne...)
until Saint-Denis de la Reunion.

.: 06-May-2004 :.
|
|
|
The last day is for the Saint-Denis de la Reunion
visit. In the morning we walk in the streets
(Barrachois, Rue de Paris...) until the
Jardin
de l'Etat.
The afternoon we do a little bit of shopping
and visit the downtown.
But at 17h it's time to leave... Take
off at 21h...

Landing at Paris at 6h30 in the morning...

.: Conclusion :.
|
|
|
Reunion is a very nive place to see.
On this small island there is a lot of things
to do (especially sports !) and a lot of
different landscapes / ambiances. You can
be near the Ocean and after a few kilometers
you can walk on a mountain. The gastronomy
is excellent and the reception from the
habitants good.
