The island of St Martin / St Maarten is located in the West Indies (Lesser Antilles). This is the smallest territory in the world shared by two countries : the northern side (St Martin) is a part of France and the southern side (St Maarten) is one of the five islands of the Netherlands Antilles. This island was previously used by numbers of pirates. The English is the main language used on both sides despite the official languages which are French and Dutch. The island of St Barthelemy (often simply called St Barth.) is a French island. If it was originally a French island it has been sell to Sweden before coming back to France. Both islands are separated by 23 Km.
The trip was done at the end of July up to the beginning of Auguest 2005 (12 days) and was especially on St Marteen. We spent only one day on St Barthelemy.
